Seniors Art for Wellbeing

Mid-Western Region seniors are invited to participate in Seniors Art for Wellbeing - an art appreciation, art making and wellbeing program to be held at the Mudgee Arts Precinct Cultural Workshops on Wednesday afternoons 1pm – 3pm in October.

This program encourages seniors to participate in an informal and social environment exploring art and participating in guided art creation through collaborative, creative expression.

Seniors who require carers/support workers are also encouraged to participate with their carer/support worker.

The structure of each 2hr weekly session will involve

• Guided exploration of a variety of quality art works
• Informal socializing
• Creation of an original artwork

This program aims to promote and support participant wellbeing through

• Increased participation in community life
• Increased opportunities for social interaction
• Development of new skills and interests
• Providing opportunities to explore feelings and create meaning
• This program provides an excellent opportunity for seniors and carers to strengthen their relationships through shared activities and learning.

BACKGROUND

This program is based on Mudgee Arts Precinct’s successful delivery of Culture Dose for Kids, an eight-week program partnering with The Black Dog Institute and Art Gallery New South Wales supporting children experiencing mild anxiety.  The program provides a safe, structured space for participants and their parents/caregivers to respond creatively to curated artworks in a group setting. This research-based program has also been successfully delivered to meet the needs of seniors living at home with support in our communities.
