ARTEXPRESS 2023

ARTEXPRESS is an annual series of exhibitions of exemplary artworks created by New South Wales visual arts students for the Higher School Certificate examination.

WASTE 2 ART Mid-Western 2023 is a community art exhibition and competition open to all local residents. It showcases creative works made from reused and recyclable waste materials. The aim is to challenge people’s perceptions about ‘rubbish’ and to celebrate the reuse and recycling of waste through arts and crafts.

Working the Waters

Guest Curated by educator, curator and arts writer Ann Finegan, Working the Waters features a collection of video and installation works by artists Christine McMillan, Terry Burrows, Sue Pedley, Tina Havelock Stevens, Josephine Starrs & Leon Cmielewski.

MAP Portrait Prize 2022

The Inaugural MAP Portrait Prize Exhibition reflected the remarkable talent within our local arts community. The MAP Portrait Prize was open to submissions in all media to artists at any level of their artistic practice with beginners right through to arts professionals submitting works for the exhibition.

Next Gen Portrait Prize

Held in conjunction with the Inaugural MAP Portrait Prize 2022, the Next Gen Portrait Prize features 2D portraits by students from the Mid-Western Region local government area.

Ngayirr Ngurambang: Sacred Country

Curated by Mudgee Wiradjuri woman Aleshia Lonsdale this exhibition featuring a group of First Nations and non-First Nations contemporary artists, celebrated the importance of place, Country and story through creative artworks, addressing cultural, environmental, historical and social values that make up the water cultures of the Goulburn River and The Drip Gorge.

Mating Dance: Anna-Wili Highfield

Anna-Wili’s works explore the organic qualities and resistance of materials, generating a tension between the complex realism of form and the limitations and economy of the materials used. They represent life in an immediate way that conveys the energy, movement and physical character of different creatures.

Michael Bourke: A Brief History of Mudgee

Michael Bourke is an artist and educator whose work investigates local landscapes through the irreverent lens of a true larrikin. His painterly depictions of local identities and landmarks reimagine the region around Mudgee, poking fun at the town’s history through his playful, witty creations.

Pamela Welsh: The Princess and the Piano

The intricate, painterly works by Pamela Welsh are drawn from the true story of Princess Alexandra Amalie of Bavaria (1826 – 1875) who had a rare condition whereby she was convinced she had swallowed a glass grand piano as a child.

Linda Jackson: Retreat, Regeneration, Reflection

Retreat, Regeneration, Reflection recounted a year that was difficult for many in our community, particularly those affected by the crippling drought, subsequent bushfires and later COVID lockdowns. During this time, Jackson was able to retreat and capture almost daily photographs to detail the landscape and its gradual and inevitable recovery in the wake of the fires.

Guido Maestri: Stories From Homedale

Guido exhibited a body of work entitled Stories From Homedale for Mudgee Arts Precinct’s first exhibition. It represented Maestri’s dramatic new approach to landscape that emerged when he was forced to rely on memory whilst in lockdown in 2021.

Messages in the Sky: Claire Healy & Sean Cordeiro

Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro are a duo of Australian contemporary artists known for their large-scale immersive installations, sculptures, and mixed-media artworks that often incorporate found objects and repurposed materials.

Wynne Prize 2023

1 December 2023 – 28 January 2024
Mudgee Arts Precinct is delighted to announce it will feature The Wynne Prize 2023 exhibition which is touring from the Art Gallery of New South Wales for the first time since it began over 125 years ago.

Julian Meagher: Triple Rainbow

2 February – 28 April 2024
An exhibition of ‘hyper-romantic’ paintings by Australian contemporary artist Julian Meagher. Many of the works in this exhibition depict the Mudgee region and investigate the subliminal transitions between night and day.
