Next Gen Portrait Prize 2024 Terms and Conditions

1. Eligibility and Notice

  • Anyone wishing to submit a work must complete the entry form, including signing the Artist Agreement.  Where entrants are minors or do not have their own email or phone number, entry forms may be completed by a parent, guardian or teacher on the entrant's behalf. 
  • To be eligible to enter the artist must reside in or attend a school in the Mid-Western Region local government area. 
  • The competition categories are as follows:

Preschool and under
Kindergarten – Year 2
Year 3 – Year 6
Year 7 – Year 9
Year 10 – Year 12

  • Competition category is based on the entrants’ 2024 school year.
  • Children of Mid-Western Regional Council staff and Councillors or the exhibition sponsor are eligible to enter the competition but are ineligible to win.  
  • Winners will be announced on Friday 1 November 2024 at the combined Next Gen Portrait Prize 2024 and MAP Portrait Prize 2024 official exhibition opening event to be held at Mudgee Arts Precinct, 90 Market Street Mudgee NSW from 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm. All entrants along with their friends and family are invited to attend.

 

2. How to Enter

  • Entries for the Next Gen Portrait Prize 2024 must be submitted online by 5pm on Monday 14 October via the Mudgee Arts Precinct website www.mudgeeartsprecinct.com.au.
  • Entry is free.
  • Community and school group entries are welcome.

 


3. Artwork Specifications

  • Works must be the artist’s original work and created within the 24 months prior to the Mudgee Arts Precinct Next Gen Youth Portrait Prize 2024.
  • Works must be two-dimensional art on paper, board or canvas. Sculptural works will not be accepted.
  • Works must be of someone you know, someone you have a personal connection to, or be a self-portrait. The primary subject must be a human. 
  • All works submitted are to be labelled on the back with the artist's name, artwork title, medium and a school or contact phone number.
  • All works must be dry and exhibition-ready on delivery to Mudgee Arts Precinct.
  • All works must be appropriately mounted for hanging.  Framed works must include D rings and wire or cord, no more than 5 cm from top edge. Unframed works on paper can be mounted or provided with rigid cardboard for hanging with bulldog clips.
  • Submissions are limited to three artworks per artist for exhibition.
  • All reasonable care will be taken when handling the works submitted, however no liability will be accepted by Mudgee Arts Precinct for loss, theft or damage of works before, during or after the exhibition.

 

4. Judging

  • Once entries close a judging panel will assess all submitted works.
  • Mudgee Arts Precinct and the judging panel reserves the right to select works for exhibition and to decline to exhibit any work. Any works not selected for exhibition will be held for collection on Monday 10 February 2025. The panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

 

5. Delivery and collection of works

  • Works are to be delivered to the upstairs seminar space at Mudgee Arts Precinct (90 Market Street, Mudgee) on Tuesday 15 October between 9.00am and 5.00pm.
  • No late works will be considered.
  • Collection of works is 9.00am – 5.00pm Monday 10 February 2025. The artist agrees to deliver and collect works during the times specified.  All transport and insurance costs are the responsibility of the artist.
  • Artworks may not be removed from the art prize until Monday 10 February 2025 between 9am and 5pm. 
  • Storage or disposal of any works not collected within three months of the exhibition closing date on Sunday 9 February 2025 will be at the discretion of Mudgee Arts Precinct Cultural Staff.

     

6. Reproduction and copyright of artist’s work

  • Mudgee Arts Precinct may reproduce exhibited works or any part of the work for the purposes of publicity, education material, the creation of an archive, catalogue or for any use they see fit. The artist warrants that the artist is the owner of all copyright in the work and has obtained all necessary permissions in the work. Mudgee Arts Precinct will credit the artist(s) appropriately where possible. 
  • Entrants may have their artwork featured in following years’ promotional material.
